Rules of Submission
Yes, the journal is accepting submissions. As you may have noticed, we started out monthly... we have relaunched 2011 with publishing rolling submissions, meaning that we will be grouping accepted work in a yearly issue or two, to be updated periodically throughout the year. Accepted submissions may be published anytime from just hours after acceptance to a later period (usually 1-3 months) depending on the editorial team's availability and according to how it is constructing the current issue. We try to form a loose theme. If we have enough material warranting a second, separate issue for the year, another regular issue could arise. Therefore, our issues are based more on content than time.
You can submit as many pieces of writing or art as you would like, and feel free to contact us if it takes awhile. If you submit simultaneously with another publication, please make sure to let us to know if a piece has been accepted so we can immediately pull it from our queue, and we recommend that you do the same, vice versa, in respect to other publications.
Eventually there will be 3 types of issues/content online: 1) our journal issues, 2) art or featured content issues, and 3) our ebooks (currently offline).
We are not a paying journal, we consider the work of our staff, editors and our writers as collaborative effort to bring high quality creative work to the web in a meaningful and long-lasting manner.
Why Vandalism? forms organic issues of creative work by artists, designers and writers. As we attempt to sculpt interesting issues, please understand and take no offense if your work is not accepted or placed in an upcoming issue. If a piece is accepted, we will contact you. If you do not hear from us or it's been awhile, please inquire and we'll let you know its status. If it's been awhile and you find your worked accepted by another publication, please do let us know.
Contributors are not bound to exclusive publishing with Why Vandalism?, although we ask all contributors to honor an exclusive short-term publishing term of at least few months, excluding personal portfolios and websites. Copyright is retained by its author, although by submitting, you acknowledge and agree to grant Why Vandalism? publishing and archiving rights on its website and online materials.
